The Lost Sea

The Lost Sea is located about 4 miles from the airport. Airport is 'friendly', Courtesy car is available and aircraft fuel prices are reasonable. The Lost Sea is the largest underground lake in the US. A walk down through interesting caverns ends in a glass bottom boat-ride. There are abundant 18 inch trout. Gift shops and grill-type restaurants onsite. Well worth the trip. - Submitted by Tiger Ace

11/19/2017 - Had a great time on a day trip to The Lost Sea! If you go, be sure to stop in and eat at Donna's Old Towne Cafe in Madisonville, TN wonderful Sunday lunch buffet. The airport manager was very accommodating and had the courtesy car ready to go for us to make the quick trip to town then the 4 - 5 miles to The Lost Sea. - Submitted by Heath Carlton

7/29/2015 - Sweetwater / Monroe County airport was a great place to stop for a visit in July 2015. The airport provides a courtesy car to zip a few miles into town for dinner and overnight stay. Check out the historical buildings, too! - Submitted by Sandy

8/28/2013 - Flew into MNV on Sunday 8/25/13. They have a courtesy van now and Lost Sea Adventure is short trip through country back-roads. Pulled- pork and fries at the Lost Sea restaurant was just what I needed and the lake was impressive. It is guided tours only, but I only had to wait three minutes before the next one started. Brad who runs the FBO for the county is a very helpful and friendly guy who is doing great things for the airport. No wonder MNV is expanding, well done Monroe County. - Submitted by Peter

10/1/2012 - This was a great day trip. There is no transportation to The Lost Sea but the airport manager was great and let us use the crew car. We had a wonderful time in this very pretty part of TN. Thanks, Larry. - Submitted by Larry

10/30/2011 - We flew in to Madison county airport and loved it. No rental cars were available at the airport so the the airport manager lent us his car for a day. We were able to visit the Lost Sea that afternoon then found an absolutlely beautiful BB in Sweetwater called Whistlestop 423-519-5152 www.whistlestopinn.org . The owners Nancy and Roland had wine and cheese ready in the evening then made a wonderful all-natural breakfast in the morning. We had a great time....aga n dean - Submitted by agata

11/12/2009 - On Nov 7th 2009 I flew my 14 year old daughter in my RV6A to Monroe Co. TN to have an opportunity to visit the Lost Sea. Every bit of the day was fantastic and perfect. Perfect weather, leaves falling from the trees etc. Just after I tied down I made a call over to the Lost Sea where Linda politely answered the phone. I told her that I had just landed with my daughter and was wondering if someone could shuttle us over to the park the airport is about 5 miles from the park. Linda immediately said that she would come over right now to get us. She not only picked us up and provided great information about the park on our drive over, but when we got there she said to just let her know when we were ready to head back to the airport and she would take us back. The tour of the caves and lake were just amazing - I have been to Cave City and thought this tour was much more impressive. Will the tour guide had lots of 1 liners while providing the caves history which were actually rather clever. I can simply say this is a must trip - my daughter and I simply had one of those fantastic times that we will remember always. - Submitted by Kye Wehrell

6/30/2007 - There is NO transportation available from the Monroe County airport to The Lost Sea.

9/5/2005 - We flew to MNV. The airport manger is friendly. The kids loved the Lost Sea cavern. Updates. There is no Jet Fuel there nor a crew car. The airport manager called over to Athens and arranged a crew car there for us. This is a great family hamburger run stop.

11/30/2002 - flew the family up to MNV on Thanksgiving (2002). Although the FBO was closed for the holiday, the fine folks at Lost Sea came out and picked us up. The tour of the cavern was fantastic, as was our guide Annie. I highly recommend this family friendly destination.
