BBQ in Lexington
-
Lexington, NC
Fun cross country to visit any of the dozen BBQ places around Lexington. Friendly airport, no parking fees, courtesy cars available. They do ask that you throw a couple bucks worth of gas in the car while out, small favor to ask for use of the airport I think and was happy to fill it up for them. I highly recommend Backcountry BBQ. 5 minutes from the field and some of the best BBQ I have ever had. Loaded up and flew some back to RDU as well. This will definitely be a return trip for me. -

Cape Fear Regional Jetport

Oak Island, NC
Great Destination airport. Super supportive staff. Beach is less than two miles away. imediate access to Oak Island and downtown Southport and the ferry to Bald Head Island. Airport had couresy cars, and also a Hertz rental on field, Enterprize rental down the block. Several great seafood restaurants, BBQ and golf couses nearby. Several hotels and beach house rentals all year round. Very busy on 3-day holidays so plan ahead. -

Crosswinds Cafe
-
Hickory, NC
Crosswinds Cafe is in the old terminal building. Just tell the tower you're there for the restaurant and they will park you in front of the old terminal. You'll park opposite the museum aircraft. If you need fuel tell them you want the FBO and then you just walk across the road to the restaurant. No frozen burgers here, they are made fresh and are great. -

Dare County Regional Airport
-
Manteo, NC
Great Airport. Beach, picinic shelter and aquarium. Lost Colonly Play nearby. Downtown is a great place to walk beside the water and eat. At the south end of the island is where the fishing boats come in. Fisherman's Wharf is a really great seafood restaurant. Real fresh fish. Seafood shop below restaurant will pack your fish for trip home. Said they would leave a bushel of oysters at the airport if you call ahead. -

First Flight Airport
-
Kill Devil Hills, NC
Pay homage to the fathers of aviation. Coming into the field-you can't see it until you're right on it. Usually a crosswind, easy landing with deer all over (sometimes crossing the runway on landing), and plenty of tiedowns-bring your own rope if you're planning on stayin more than a few hours. There's only one tiedown with rope there. Free admittance into the park, AOPA just put up a new facility there for pilots-entry code is VFR sqwak code. It's a great place-only way to get to the beach is by bringing your own bikes. Dare County (MQI) is a 3 minute flight from FFA, and they have a crew car where you can go into town and get some grub. If you like seafood-go to stripers grille in-town-ask the FBO where it is(right next to McDonalds). -

Howard's Pub on Ocracoke Island, NC
-
Ocracoke, NC
Join Airbatic Adventures on cross country to Ocracoke Island located in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The only way on or off the island is by boat or airplane. With a beautiful airport right off the beach, I'd choose airplane every time! Howard's Pub is a short 10-minute walk from the ramp and the food is definitely worth the walk in the hot Carolina sun! -
