Bill's Toasty Diner
-
Taylorville Municipal Airport, IL
Taylorville airport is a great place to fly into. They do Skydiving, have self serve 100LL and Jet A, a courtesy car, nice pilot lounge and lots of restaurants nearby including Taco Gringo, Angelo's Pizza, all the fast food chains, and a really great hole in the wall type diner called Bill's Toasty. It has the old style counter with stools, everything is cooked in front of you, great staff and fabulous food. They make milkshakes the old fashioned way in metal cups. Definitely a great airport and community to stop at during your travels! Bill's Toasty Diner is only 8 minutes from the airport. https://www.facebook.com/Bills-Toasty-Shop-136736443066896/ -

Heritage in Flight - WWII Aero Museum
-
Lincoln, IL
The museum is housed in a World War II German POW barracks that was in a POW camp near Macomb, Illinois called Camp Ellis. The contents of the HIF Museum include memorabilia and artifacts from all of the military conflicts dating back to World War I. On display are mementos donated by veterans and those on the home front. Various military branches have also donated many aircraft and other military vehicles that are located outside the museum. The rotating beacon at the Logan County Airport (AAA) was part of the lighted airway system route from St. Louis to Chicago. This was the route that Charles Lindbergh flew as an airmail pilot. This is an old museum that is being updated by volunteers (so donations are greatly appreciated) . -
