Director of Maintenance - FL - Boca Raton, Florida

Description:

The Director of Maintenance is primarily responsible for managing current aircraft maintenance and repair operations for a Part 141 flight school while implementing actions and procedures to accomplish aircraft maintenance objectives and scheduling. Reports to the Dean, College of Aeronautics. Supervises a team of A P Mechanics and performs A P Mechanic and IA duties which include maintenance, inspection, and repairs on piston-engine flight training aircraft in accordance with applicable regulations, manufacturersrsquo; instructions, and university policies. The position may require a work week that includes the weekend (for example Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday).

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Monitors and oversees all aircraft maintenance and repair operations to ensure timely completion of maintenance schedule on various aircraft.
  • Leads a team of A P mechanics, providing work assignments, completion times, assistance, mentorship, monitoring, and direction.
  • Coordinates off-site aircraft maintenance activities with local vendors to maximize the use of the fleet.
  • Works with the administration to determine upcoming labor, parts, and supply needs to adequately maintain and service assigned aircraft.
  • Manages parts inventory, procurement, and expenses through data management systems.
  • Provides College leadership regular reporting of aircraft status, estimated time to completion, and changes to existing schedules.
  • Develops long-range planning for aircraft and engine maintenance and executes those plans.
  • Ensures that all maintenance activities comply with FAA regulations, manufacturersrsquo; specifications, and university policies.
  • Ensures that all tools and shop equipment are in proper working condition, in accordance with safety and operating standards and university policies. Must provide a personal set of standard shop tools.
  • Completes and/or assigns maintenance activities to maximize efficiency and minimize work hours and errors.
  • Performs skilled manual and technical work to complete general maintenance service on aircraft and engines to ensure airworthiness, as needed.
  • Obtains information from approved maintenance and parts manuals, to properly identify and locate components on the aircraft and accurately implement instructions from the manuals.
  • Manages and oversees the completion of required documentation, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and university policies.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence relative to the universityrsquo;s maintenance operations, status, and costs.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university (preferred
  • Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic License.
  • Five (5) years of general aviation maintenance experience with specific expertise in troubleshooting, inspection, and maintenance of power plant systems, lubrication systems, intake and exhaust systems, electrical and instrument systems, and propellers on piston-powered training aircraft.
  • One (1) year prior team leadership or supervisory experience is required.
  • FAA Inspection Authorization.
