Primary Objective of the Position:
As Director, Powerplant, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the companys aircraft engines and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) operations, including maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), reliability management, cost control, and strategic planning to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with aviation regulatory standards. This role shall be crucial in managing the companys fleet efficiently and cost-effectively, while also overseeing engine purchases, sales, reliability improvements, and overall on-wing performance.
The direct leadership and oversight of engine events by Director, Powerplant will help optimize yield, maintain operational spare allotments, mitigate zero spare engine condition in a predictable manner, while ensuring all engine maintenance program requirements are met in alignment with the Line and Airframe Maintenance Programs.
Essential Position Functions:
- Manage Cargojets fleet of engines, overall engine support and performance. Including customer engines under contract (Company Engines).
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and processes to optimize engine lifecycle management and ensure alignment with company goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to drive initiatives related to fleet expansion, engine procurement, and long-term fleet planning.
- Manage engine MRO costs, ensuring budgetary control while driving cost-saving opportunities through effective vendor management, supporting Strategic Procurement with contract negotiation, and long-term maintenance planning.
- Ensure accurate tracking of engine usage, spare engine allocation, and inventory management to avoid operational disruptions.
- Lead efforts to improve engine overhaul turn times and reduce operational spare engine shortfalls.
- Oversee engine maintenance programs, including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, to ensure compliance with company manuals, regulatory requirements, and OEM standards.
- Monitor engine reliability trends and direct initiatives to enhance engine and APU performance, minimize downtime, and optimize on-wing time.
- Lead the investigation and resolution of engine-related issues, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Ensure all power plant operations comply with aviation regulations, including Transport Canada (CARS) standards, and maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all engine-related regulatory inquiries and documentation.
- Develop and maintain weekly / monthly reports of program status, spare allotment and shop progress reporting.
- Report unserviceable engines to the Person Responsible for Maintenance and senior leadership as required.
- Responsible for compliance of QEC components, mounting hardware, engine shop and shipping stand compliance.
- Schedule and conduct employee team meetings.
- Responsible for your training and the training of the direct reports, ensuring employees remain current with all technical and regulatory training requirements to function in their assigned role.
- Support the investigation of all engine related SDR (Service Difficulty Report), MIR (Maintenance Irregularity Report), and SMS (Safety Management System) reporting.
- Investigate and provide a detailed report in all significant engine related IFSD events (In Flight Shutdown).
- Ensure compliance with Safety Management System (SMS) and safety policies, procedures and standards.
- Ensure a clean and safe workplace for team members.
- Additional tasks as assigned from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in aircraft engine or power plant management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience on RB211 and CF6-80 powerplant specifically installed on B757 and B767 is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of aircraft engine systems, OEM guidelines, MRO processes, and regulatory compliance (CARS / FAA).
- Proven experience managing engine reliability programs, budgeting, and vendor negotiations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
- Experience in project management and strategic planning within an aviation technical operations environment.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management software and performance tracking tools.
- Hold a valid AME license and obtain an Aircraft Certification Authority (ACA) holder pursuant to the Policy Manual
- Financial acumen, contract/lease, planning and forecasting skills.
- Detail-oriented, able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
