Position Summary

The Director of Safety (DOS) reports directly to the Company President on safety-related matters and advises and assists company managers in complying with applicable Federal, State, and Local aviation and safety regulations and with company policies and procedures as outlined within the company manual systems. The DOS manages the company Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with 14 CFR Part 5, the Internal Evaluation Program (IEP), the Emergency Response Program (ERP), all aspects of company Environmental Health and Safety, and any other current or future-implemented safety-related programs.

Essential Functions Statement:

  • Safety Policy, Safety Promotion, Safety Assurance and Safety Risk Management IAW 14 CFR Part 5
  • Develop, implement, manage, and continually improve the BAI SMS
  • Design, publish, and implement program-specific addendums to the BAI SMS Manual.
  • Administer and continually improve the BAI Emergency Response Plan, inclusive of program-specific addendums.
  • Develop and implement applicable training materials to ensure the effectiveness of the BAI SMS, IEP, ERP, and the growth of BAIrsquo;s safety culture.
  • Maintain close contact with CONUS and OCONUS personnel to identify safety and environmental hazards, risks, and promote the reduction or elimination of potentially hazardous conditions that may lead to accidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and safety-related financial losses.
  • Advise the executive management team on all safety related matters that could impact operations.
  • Initiate, oversee and participate in the BAI Aviation Safety Committee.
  • Administer BAI Internal Evaluation Program.
  • Administer internal safety audits in accordance with all applicable directives and regulations.
  • Responsible for ensuring all safety-related investigations are completed in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Perform routine environmental health and safety inspections/audits throughout all facilities.
  • Investigate and determine root cause; design and implement mitigation plan with associated department; and create reports and properly record incidents and accidents.
  • Work closely with Supervisors and Human Resources in coordination of information for all on the job injuries and prepare 1st Report of Injury form for submission to Workerrsquo;s Compensation Insurance Carrier.
  • Responsible for ensuring all applicable Safety and Environmental Health posters in all common areas are up to date and pertinent to industry.
  • Ensure all employees are issued and utilizing job specific Personal Protection Equipment as required.
  • Create and maintain a current Emergency Evacuation Route.
  • Responsible for training, maintaining and tracking employee requirements for health and safety regulations.
  • Provide support to management regarding safety regulations.
  • Manage accurate and timely reporting to Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and other relevant organizations.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Develop, implement and maintain programs as they pertain to workplace environmental health and safety.
  • Responsible for Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) compliance rainfall recording and sampling, site inspections and maintaining compliance records.
  • Work with management to develop safety related goals and targets and track progress towards them

Requirements:

Competency Statements

  • Must meet the minimum qualifications IAW 14 CFR Part 119.39 and 119.65
  • Must have extensive operational experience and professional qualifications in aviation.
  • Must have knowledge of aviation safety management policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Must be able to continually evaluate the efficacy of the SMS and implements improvement processes, ensuring the growth of BAIrsquo;s SMS and safety culture.
  • Must have extensive knowledge in supporting aviation operations in austere locations.
  • Exercise strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to accurately interface with military and civilian customers as well as contractors and aircrew.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of industry rules, regulations, and legal codes.
  • Good mentoring, training, and feedback skills.
  • Good project management and budgeting skills.
  • Strong customer-service orientation.
  • Strong organizational and attention to detail skills to ensure programs and deadlines are maintained.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role may or may not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in an environment that varies from a clerical, office setting using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines to a warehouse setting with various weather and temperature conditions to include extreme heat, humidity and cold to also shop-floor locations, ramp and outdoors with potential adverse weather conditions and high noise levels as well as austere locations.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shift may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require.

Facility Location: Office based out of home location with potential travel to Oklahoma City, OK; Denton, TX; Akron, OH; and various sites overseas.

Travel requirements are: 25%

Required Education and Experience

Education: Associates degree in Aviation Safety and Industrial Safety or other related degree; or experience listed below in lieu of degree.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of aviation safety management;
  • 2+ years of facility environmental, health and safety administration or management

Computer Skills: Mastery of basic documents, spreadsheet and presentations programs; familiar with SMS management software and functionality; familiar with operating airborne mission computers and related systems without hesitation.

Preferred Education and Experience

Education: Bachelors of Science Degree in Aviation, Management or other related degree; Certified Safety Professional.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of of experience as a vocational pilot
  • Experience in supervisor position in an aviation safety management role
  • Aviation environment; FAA/DOT regulated industry
  • Laws/Regulations: State and Federal laws/regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Employee must be a US citizen and not hold dual citizenship with another country.

Employee should be able to hold and maintain a Secret clearance
