SUMMARY:

The Operations Manager has a pivotal role in leading, directing, and coordinating production manufacturing operations for the Tilton and Franklin facilities. The Manager must ensure the achievement of production requirements, quality and reliability standards, and on-time delivery at the lowest cost. These objectives will be achieved by collaborating with Engineering, Quality, Production Control, EHS, Sales, Human Resources, and Information Systems, and by motivating the production workforce. The role is responsible for delivering results through Lean Manufacturing techniques, 6S, TOC, Six Sigma, and problem-solving.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*:

  • Responsible for safely manufacturing a quality product while meeting customer specifications and delivery commitments. Ensure adherence to process control procedures and all operating quality control instructions.
  • Oversee manufacturing plans, coordinating and maintaining production schedules to meet customer requirements.
  • Control and monitor the quality, flow of product, delivery, materials, cost of production, work-in-process levels, and labor utilization throughout organization.
  • Formulate long- and short-range strategies for continuous improvements across all manufacturing functions.
  • Identify and execute critical capital project improvements for both Tilton and Franklin facilities.
  • Recommend and purchase new equipment for expansion, efficiency, cost reductions, and quality improvement.
  • Provide input on the design and installation of equipment for new manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure EHS rules are always followed by every employee in the departments. Drive the safety culture through collaboration with EHS leader to be world class in safety and environmental compliance.
  • Manage operational metrics, including TOC, variable cost, and productivity targets on a daily, weekly, and quarterly basis. Review and plan for labor, equipment, and supply requirements to achieve the departmental throughput while meeting and exceeding the productivity targets.
  • Effectively collaborate with product and process engineering to reduce scrap and rework caused by manufacturing processes.
  • Lead plant production teams, including hiring, performance evaluations, and talent development. Effectively develop and coach supervisors on all shifts with emphasis on building a winning team environment and motivating the production workforce.
  • Coordinate department priorities by effective daily communication with engineering, quality, production control, finance, human resources, and vendors.
  • Establish and execute annual operating budgets for departments and meet the budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*:

  • Must comply with all applicable safety requirements, policies and procedures, while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Must participate in required training, medical monitoring, safety, and health evaluations and programs.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in all designated areas of facility.
  • Perform all physical functions** of position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Strategic vision for new and future technology to support manufacturing and operational excellence.
  • Financial and budgeting skills including capital and improvement planning.
  • Experience with strategic planning and analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to implement world class manufacturing techniques, develop accountabilities and measurements.
  • Preferred background and experience with 6S implementation, engineering, and management.
  • Working knowledge of the investment casting and associated processes preferred.
  • Proven ability to work hands-on with the team to achieve objectives.
  • Strong data analytics and Excel skills.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in Industrial, Mechanical, or a related engineering field, or 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing setting.
  • MS or MBA degree is desirable.
  • Prefer 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing with successful experience in related production operations management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, relentlessly execute and deliver results in conformance with targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities.
  • Demonstrated abilities to lead people and get results through others, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive training in manufacturing processes. In depth knowledge and experience in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies and Six Sigma Certification required.
