Mustang Beach Airport

Probably the best place in Texas to fly into. It has more to offer a family than any place we have found. The airport is just what is needed. There is a paved runway, restrooms, phone, weather device, fuel and plenty of parking in the grass. No one on duty. Sipher lock on door, read sign for combination. Bring tiedown. I understand they may have a small charge now, it is worth it in the heat of south Texas. Usually at the airport at 45 past the hour. Returns at the highway about 05 past the hour. There is a yacht basin close by with facilities for boaters. You are allowed access to some of them. There is a new hotel with in walking distance and many condos towards the beach. The beach is about half a mile away. We usually fly in and use our folding bikes to ride the beach into town. Several good restaurants all year long. Visit the harbor, ride the ferry, shop, walk the birding area, walk the jetties and the pier. Check the city web site with a search. You want be sorry you visited Port 'A' if you like the coast. The most comfortable time and cleanest beaches are after a cold front blows through. Listen up on Corpus approach for traffic and use the unicom. Sometimes the Navy uses RAS for practice approaches. A varity of planes will be seen here from experimentals to jets enjoying this facility and all the city of Port Aransas offers. Bonanza Bill, GTU. - Submitted by FunPlacesToFly.com Member

7/15/2018 - Check for fuel availability before you go. June 2018 - Submitted by Bryan

6/13/2018 - I've been flying in to Port A for 20 years and have covered the gulf coast from the tip of Texas to Key West. I will say you won't find a better place to fly if going to the beach, fishing, great golf and fantastic chef inspired restaurant's are what you are in search of. Port A is also the only town in Texas that allows golf carts as a major source of transportation with cart rental agency everywhere, they will even pick you up at the mustang beach airport! - Submitted by Gary

4/3/2018 - The Trolley won't pick up at the airport any longer. You can easily rent a really nice golf cart from Top Deck Golf carts right down the road from the airport. Call ahead and they may be able to pick you up. - Submitted by Robert Webb

9/14/2016 - Was there 6 months ago. No trolley. Asked around and nobody had ever heard of it. - Submitted by Chuck

6/25/2013 - Flew the family in to Mustang Island this weekend for a quick beach getaway. Airport is well maintained and conveniently located. We considered riding the Port A shuttle/trolley from the airport, which runs hourly, but walked to the beach instead. I made a call to Coastal Ed'shttp://www.portagolfcar.comwhich came and picked me up from the beach so I could rent a golf-cart. If you can plan ahead, Coastal Ed will deliver the cart to the airport per your arrival-time waiting on you with a full tank of gas! This truly put the icing on the cake of our trip to Port A. Corpus Approach was more than helpful flying in and out of KRAS. Looking forward to the return trip. - Submitted by James Braddy

5/30/2013 - Great place to fly into. Both approaches over water, so its pretty cool. There is a trolley service, but it stops running around 5o'clock and some restaurants also close early, so bear that in mind when planning. Staff are great and gas was at $5.40. Randy, the airport manager is extremely friendly/helpful. Highly recommended. Patrick, KRBD - Submitted by Patrick

9/10/2011 - If you liked us in Iowa, you'll love us in Texas! We now have our second aviation themed hotel open and ready for fly-in visitors to Port Aransas! It is currently called the Harbor Inn, but we will soon be changing the name to Amelia's Landing.

We have a courtesy car at Mustang Beach Airport for you to use when you fly in, or we will come pick you up. Either way, we won't leave you stranded!

Each of our rooms is decorated to reflect a different era of aviation history, from the Wright Brothers to the modern era. We are in the heart of Port A, within WALKING DISTANCE of every bar, restaurant, live music venue, the beach, the docks, the grocery store, and the candy store! We have a pool, hot tub, and barbecue area for you to use during your visit.

And, just like in Iowa, we deliver breakfast to your room each morning during your stay.

Say you saw us on FunPlacesToFly.com, and we will take 10 off your rate! www.AmeliasLanding.com. - Submitted by Jay Honeck

10/6/2010 - Was just in Port Aransas 3-4 Oct. The Trolly has been replaced by a bus, .25 cents a ride. Schedule has changed to every 45 minutes. Some stops elimimnated. Starts pick-up at the airport 10:36 till 5:21. Usually very dependable. A bus schedule available on the City of Port Aransas web site under departments, transportation. Taxi also available at : 361-749-0850. 8 New tiedown spots in front of the Terminal. Bring tie-down. Door access code instructions on door. The best place in Texas to peg your fun meter! Plenty to do. Close to the beach. Has a Birding area. Boats, parks and good food. 4BH - Submitted by Bonanza Bill

10/5/2010 - Great place. Nice facilities, friendly people, good food, beautiful beach! The 25 cent shuttle does indeed still pick up from behind the FBO building. There is a schedule there, but I don't think we were picked up at the exact time posted. Great day trip!! - Submitted by jb

3/19/2010 - Just got back from 2 days in Port A. What a great plave to visit! Watch the parachuters around the pattern on the beach side runway! Had to abort landing.. right in the final approach! Trolly to town. If you spend the night, get a golf cart from Charlie in town shop! Great food and fun! - Submitted by Hal Robinson

8/29/2009 - Was there 23 Aug 2009 and bus dropped us off. If you can't get the bus at airport and I think you still can there is a stop just about 1/4 mile away at the beach. Go - it is a GREAT place if you like the beach !! - Submitted by C Baker

8/11/2009 - The trolly does not come to the airport anymore. You have to walk 1/4 mile w/luggage to catch the trolley on the main highway. Maybe if enough people complain, they will change it back and then I too will return to Mustang Island. - Submitted by Becca

7/4/2009 - Visited 3 July - Agree it is a great place and we will be going back ! Beach was great. Trolley is really a small air-conditioned bus - 25 cents per person. Have to take Trolley into town to get to the golf cart rental place. They have an LPV approach so easy to get into even in inclement weather. For anyone interested, the Southern Living Magazine idea home is within a few miles of the airport and open until September 2009 - need to take a short taxi ride. - Submitted by C Baker

6/14/2009 - Just returned from Mustang BeachKRAS. We flew down for a day trip and the kids had a blast!!! There are a couple of car rental companies that service the airport, but they are not on field. We rented a 4x4 Golf Cart, which are legal on the roads, amd drove all around town and on the beach. There many restaurants to choose from, and we ate seafood, it was very good. A perfect place to fly with the family and spend an hour or the weekend!! Blue skies and tailwinds. The Mustang Beach airport is a City operated facility with a 3,500 foot lighted, newly repaved, asphalt runway and taxi-way. The airport has a part-time Airport Manager, but when unmanned, responsibility lies with the pilot. - Uploaded by Dave
