Tangier Island
Tangier Island is located in the Chesapeake Bay. The only way to get there is by boat or plane. A quaint little fishing, crabbing, and oyster village less than two hours from the Raleigh area. Nice 2400' rwy with a short walk in to town and local restaurants.

The seafood is excellent and can't be more fresh. Golf carts available for exploring the island. My favorite travel path is to fly over Norfolk, the bay bridge tunnel and up the eastern shore....very pretty trip. - Submitted by Len Felton |

This is such a cool place to fly. Just be aware that if you fly there in the wintertime make sure that you call ahead if you want to eat or see anything because they dont get a lot of visitors and the restaurants close just after lunch.
Everyone was very friendly and the island was super cool to walk around. If you have bikes that would work better.
Flying:
- ATC was great, there is the Restricted zone on the way in and they allowed me to stay at glide altitude across the water.
- Check the notams as always right? and I would advise a flyover of the runway before landing especially during off season because the runway sits right at water level and debris can wash up close to the runway, and there is a path where truck cross the runway.

6/1/2022 - Visited on Memorial Day, 30 May, 2022. There is now only ONE restaurant left open, Lorraine's. There is also a fast-food shack Four Brothers open seasonally. There are no more golf carts for rent, so take a bike or pay for a tour. Still a wonderful place to visit! Mike Marra - Submitted by Mike Marra
9/12/2020 - I fly into TGI regularly. The Chesapeake House was closed this year, but I like to visit Lorraine's. I often bring a cooler and purchase the milk based crab chowder. I often get five or six but you should call ahead to make sure they have it. Worth the trip just for that, but Tangier is a really interesting place to wander around for the day.
