FAA Aeromedical Training Programs - Langley, VA

The FAA offers aeromedical training that is informative and fun. The classes are offered at many locations (see the web site listed or go through the FAA web site and look for physiological training.) I've listed Langley because that's where we went. If you plan it early enough, you may be able to fly into the Airforce Base. (You have to get a special pass.) We also got high-altitude sign-offs because the class includes a trip in a barometric pressure chamber up to about 25,000 feet! - Submitted by nibble26

Gordonsville Municipal Airport - Gordonsville, VA

We stopped into GVE on a whim last week needed a place to go to the bathroom and went low enough to check it out on our way to Shenandoah Regional. A friendly voice came over the radio telling us the direction to land and inviting us to stop in. It was great. Small, but incredibly friendly, several adults and a couple of dogs came to greet us. They told us the story of their airport and had free and fabulous food. Donations accepted in a decorated hanger with heat lamps. They tell us they're a hot spot for tail-draggers we fly a Super Decathlon. Faith and Caleb are there on weekends. Stop in and be enchanted! Oh, the runway can take you a little by surprise, it's got a substantial incline. They suggest landing toward the middle. - Submitted by Anne

New London Airport - Forest, VA

W90 is a small airport with a rich history, much character, and great community. It has its origins as a drag strip in the 50's which eventually became an airport soon after. Many of the tenants recall the glory days, share fantastic aviation stories as well as provide amazing instruction to student's who train there now. The airport lies on a beautiful piece of land that includes several ponds, farm land acreage, and woods. areas. One especially unique aspect of the airfield is that it is host to a Fly'In Church of pilots and enthusiasts who meet each week to fly, fellowship, play music, have cookouts, and use their talents for Christ's cause! Locally famous, New London Steakhouse is just down the street, hiking in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains is a great activity, and the D-Day memorial in the next town over. Camping and a Fly-In cafe are in progress, and If you want to meet the most friendly airport dog who loves to fly, check out W90! - Submitted by Olivia Fuller
