Austin Landing/Wright B flyer/ Commander Aero
-
Miamisburg, OH
When looking for a place to fly, Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport KMGY is always a great stop. Located within walking distance to Austin Landing, a shopping outlet filled with stores and great restaurants. Don't feel like driving? Call ahead and ask for the Crew Car at Commander Aero. They will be happy to let you take their Lexus out to either the Air Force Museum or out for lunch. They have the cheapest 100ll on the field and offer a 10cent AOPA discount. At KMGY there is also the Wright B museum, which hangars a flying Wright B Flyer. Open from 9:30 to 2:30pm Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. -

Grimes Flying Lab
-
Urbana, OH
Grimes Flying Lab Foundation. Originally manufactured as a Beech C-45H transport aircraft for the U.S. Air Force in 1953. It was acquired by Warren Grimes in 1963 to be used as a lighting demonstration aircraft. Over the years the aircraft regularly was flown at air shows around the world and continued being used as a laboratory to develop new lighting products. In 1986 the plane was damaged at an air show and sold for salvage. In 1999 the plane was purchased by Honeywell which had purchased Grimes Manufacturing and moved the damaged and dismantled airplane back to Grimes Field for restoration. Volunteer worked on the restoration project and the plane once again began flying out of Grimes Field in 2008. The Grimes Flying Lab Foundation was formed to handle the restoration of the aircraft. - See more at: http://www.touring-ohio.com/southwest/champaign/grimes-field.htmlsthash.SwbhkR7R.dpuf -
