General

This is a full-time, FLSA exempt position that reports to the Director of Safety (DOS). The Manager of Internal Evaluation (MIE) has overall responsibility, as part of the Company’s Safety department, for the day-to-day performance and management of the Safety Internal Evaluation Program (IEP). The Manager of Internal Evaluation is an important position which ensures all Eastern Airlines personnel promote safety and regulatory compliance for all Eastern Airlines operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports the Director of Safety in conducting safety assurance audits to ensure compliance with Company policies, procedures, and federal regulations.
• Function as a subject matter expert on the Company safety audit processes.
• Schedules and performs internal evaluation, safety assurance and vendor audits, inspections and analysis of data as a part of an ongoing Internal Evaluation Program (IEP) and to validate conformance with Company operational procedures in problem areas identified by safety information trend analysis.
• Develops an annual evaluation schedule through coordination with the DOS and ensures all evaluations are conducted on time.
• Conducts Operational Audits and analyzes results to achieve highest levels of safety.
• Facilitates and coordinates activities among operational groups to ensure good resolution to cross functional issues.
• Tracks both findings and corrective actions to ensure follow-up and completion.
• Supports In-brief & Out-brief with company organizational leadership.
• Compiles and analyzes audit and evaluation findings for root cause identification and recommends corrective actions.
• Records and maintains the electronic database of evaluation information and audit findings in the company Safety Data Collection Tool.
• Identifies and documents safety assurance nonconformities.
• Tracks and verifies implementation of corrective actions specified time frames.
• Recommend policy and procedure changes for process improvements to the Director of Safety (DOS).
• Assists in developing and maintaining policies and procedures for Safety Assurance, utilizing information from other operations groups, FAA, IATA, IOSA, other agencies, and workshops to enhance Safety Assurance.
• Communicates results to affected organizations and monitors responses from affected Departments.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the Director of Safety and Executive management.
• Works in concert with the Quality Department, as needed.
• In the absence of the Director of Safety and may be delegated to perform duties of the Director of Safety including, liaise with the local FAA Flight Safety District Office, OSHA, NTSB, or other regulatory agencies as directed by COO pertaining to areas of function and responsibility.

1. Qualifications

• Requires strong knowledge of aviation safety standards, operating practices, and applicable provisions or Federal Aviation Regulations Parts14 CFR parts 1, 5, 21, 25, 39, 43, 61, 65, 91, 117,119, 120, 121, 139, 49 CFR parts 40, 171, 172, 175,830, 1520, 1540, 1542, 1544, and the Company OpSpecs.
• In depth knowledge and understanding of SMS, root cause analysis and accepted auditing techniques.
• Have a minimum of two (2) years of auditing experience in the airline industry of a 14 CFR Part 121 or Part 135 scheduled air carrier. In lieu of the preceding, at least two (2) years equivalent auditing experience in U.S. military aviation operations may be accepted.
• Have a full understanding of the manual(s) required by CFR § 121.133.
• Have successfully completed a recognized comprehensive safety certificate program (this qualification is preferred). *
• Be familiar with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other Federal safety regulations.
• Be familiar with database management.
• Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
• Must always exercise good judgement.
• Travel will be required and possession of a current passport is required.
• Pass a two (2) year drug and alcohol background check, pre-employment drug test, and criminal history records check (CHRC).
• Eligible to work in the United States.
