During World War II, approximately 1000 Women Airforce Service Pilots WASP were trained here at Avenger Field in Sweetwater Texas to fly military aircraft throughout the United States. They filled military pilot jobs from transport to training to ferry to target towing. Because these women were flying military missions in the Continental US, this allowed more men to fly missions overseas in Europe and the Pacific.

This museum is a lasting tribute to this group of women. You can land at Sweetwater and park at the Avenger Air FBO on the southwest side of the field. The museum is just southeast of the approach end of Runway 35. It is a walk-able distance. - Submitted by EJ Staley |
